Our timeline – five generations of expertise
It all started in 1874, when Charles Matthew North founded C M North & Co as packing box makers. His son William launched W. W. North Ltd in 1913, expanding into timber merchanting in Hull. After William’s passing in 1937, Clifford and Bramwell North formed C. B. North Ltd – the name we proudly carry today. Clifford’s two sons, Keith and Ian North, joined the company in the 1950s and continued leading the business after their father’s passing in 1977. By the early 1990s, they were joined by Keith’s sons, Richard and Andrew North, the fifth generation, who continue to run the business today, maintaining a long-standing reputation for reliable timber supply. Early foundations (1874)
Our story began in 1874 when Charles Matthew North established C M North & Co as packing box makers, laying the groundwork for what would become a long-standing family presence in timber.
Expansion into timber (1913)
In 1913, his son William North expanded into timber merchanting, trading as W. W. North Ltd and establishing a strong foothold in Hull’s timber industry.
Formation of C. B. North Ltd (1937)
Following William’s passing in 1937, his sons Clifford and Bramwell North formed C B North Ltd, creating the company name that continues today.
Continuing the legacy (1950s–1977)
Clifford’s sons, Keith and Ian North, joined the business in the 1950s and continued to lead and develop the company after their father’s passing in 1977.
The fifth generation (1990s–present)
By the early 1990s, Keith’s sons, Richard and Andrew North, joined the business. As the fifth generation, they continue to lead the company today, maintaining its reputation for reliable timber supply and strong family values.
